Last week I stumbled upon the holy grail of vintage Chanel. Charlotte isn’t exactly known for its consignment boutiques but when a new one popped up on my neighborhood I had to check it out. Upon walking into this teeny tiny shop, the first thing I spotted were these gold gap toed 1989 vintage Chanel flats. I wandered over to them thinking they would either be much too expensive for my budget, or not even close to my man-sized shoe size. Lo and behold, the shoes were on sale for 40% off, and were an exact 39.5 (my ideal European size). I was shocked. Stunned. And knew immediately they would be coming home with me.
The owner of the boutique is a Chanel collector herself and had these shoes fit her she would have purchased them personally. They had come into the store only days before and were in near perfect condition. Made of 100% italian leather soles and cap toes with a suede upper, these flats are simply stunning. They are the most beautiful gold, almost mustard yellow or rust color and pair well with almost everything. Unlike most Chanel flats that require some breaking in, because these particular ones are suede they are comfortable from the get-go.
These shoes were my first ever Chanel purchase and I am so incredibly in love. I can only imagine passing these along to my future daughters and explaining “these were Mommy’s first Chanel.”
