This week has been very busy and fast paced. I’m looking forward to a relaxing weekend filled with cooking, baking, and a few DIY projects I have up my sleeve. Have a great weekend!

Review: H&M Forest Green Cotton Blazer

Blazer: H&M (recent) (sized up to a 12), Jeans: Levi’s, Necklace: H&M (recent)

I snapped these photos at my parent’s house while home for the weekend after spending some time shopping at our local H&M. Unlike most bloggers, I have a hard time finding items that fit and flatter my figure at H&M. I argue their cuts are not pearshape friendly, and I often have to size up one or two sizes to get things to fit right. This forest green heavy cotton blazer was a rare gem that I’m absolutely in love with.

First and foremost let me say that I did have to size up a few sizes to make this blazer work. Normally I wear an 8 in tops but here I am wearing a size 12 US. Aside from the sizing discrepancy, this blazer is a gorgeous deep forest green, is fully lined with stunning burgundy piping along the inside, and is made of a heavyweight cotton material. It has a two button closure in the front and the top button hits me perfectly just below my bust.

The sleeve length is also spot on. Though the sleeves only have an awkward two buttons instead of 3 or 4, the length is perfect and it falls nicely over my arm without being too big or pulling along my underarm. Because I am a sucker for details, I also loved the seaming along the front and back giving this blazer an even more ladylike shape. Also as you can see, the blazer falls lower in the back and curves up in the front, a unique cut that I think flatters a rear end without truncating the front leg-line.

With its open slit in the back, fully lined pockets and stunning color for Fall, I have decided to keep this blazer. Check out H&M for the other colors as well as this cut comes in 7-8 other vibrant options!

Have you shopped H&M recently? Do you find their sizing and cuts difficult to make work?

San Diego Family Weekend: Big Brother Gets Engaged

The Family: Big brother in the middle

This weekend was particularly special. I flew home to San Diego to spend the weekend with my family and celebrate one of the biggest occasions our little family of five has had to date: my big brother’s engagement. After dating his girlfriend (now fiance!) for over four years, they became engaged in Big Sur, CA last Thursday. All of our closest family and friends gathered for the event filled with great Mexican food, mini bundt cakes, and lots of laughter.

The happy couple!

It was such a great weekend with family and friends. Congratulations to David and Julia! Cannot wait for the wedding!

San Diego Style

Top: J.Crew, Belt: Target, Jeans: Levi’s Curve ID (Supreme), Sandals + Earrings: Nordstrom Rack

As I mentioned in last Friday’s post, I spent this last weekend in San Diego with my family celebrating a big event. It was a fun few days of parties, great food, and time outdoors. Warm yet breezy southern California weather requires comfortable basics, open-toed shoes, and messy hair styles, all pulled together with chic accessories. I stuck with my trusty J.Crew top tucked into my favorite Curve ID jeans to run around with the family.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post about the fun family event we had this weekend! Pictures and stories to come.
