Goodbye 2012

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

To say the very least, 2012 was an amazing year. I graduated from college, moved into my first apartment in Charlotte, began a new job, and started my very own little piece of the internet: thepearshape.com. While the year has been filled with excitement, changes, love, and happiness, one of the aspects that has been the most fulfilling is this blog. I thrive on the creativity and love the openness with which I have been received. I cannot wait to see what this will become and to continue to share my outfits, and my life, with all of you. Thank you for your continued readership and support. It truly means the world.

Have a safe and Happy New Year!

The importance of a great hair-do + my product favorites

If there is one thing that can make me feel complete and put together regardless of what i’m wearing, it is a great hairstyle. On a day like this one where the weather was terrible and I wanted to do nothing but lay around in sweats, getting up and simply blowdrying my hair made me feel sexy and pretty. To achieve the sleek, clean look I have in these photos, I rely on a few key products and hair accessories.

Naturally my hair is curly and frizzy. Sometimes this works just fine, but most days I need to put a little elbow grease into my hair to make it look presentable, especially for work with clients. My preferred hairstyle is wavy with body and bounce, as pictured above.

My method of achieving this includes a large round brush, tons of styling products to tame frizz and give extra body, and some clips and scrunchies to sleep in to keep the style for multiple days.

My go-to products include: Keratase Elixer, Chi Shine Infusion pray, Elnett hairspray, Matrix root lifter, Tresemme heat protective spray, any large round brush (I prefer something coarser like this one), clips, scrunchy to prevent creasing and keep the style.  I apply products 1, 4 and 5 before blow drying, 2 and 3 after for shine and hold. With these products and a little work with a blow dryer, I achieve shiny, manageable hair that has me feeling confident and sexy.

Christmas morning style: Hot pink bow skirt + cashmere turtleneck

Mom’s old sweater, KTR Style skirt, J.Crew skirt and bracelet, SPANX tights, Nordstrom Rack earrings, MAC “asian flower” lipstick

I have been a longtime fan of KT and have read her blog religiously for a while. So when I saw her double bow skirt on a recent blog post, I knew it would be the perfect piece to wear for Holiday parties and festivities. I immediately emailed her asking if she could make one to my size, but asked if she could add a bit of length to the bottom to conceal my biggest problem area (my thighs). She kindly agreed and within a week I had this beautiful, custom made skirt at my door!

I have had the greatest time styling this skirt for multiple occasions.  I have worn it to Christmas parties and most recently, on Christmas morning to festively run around with my boyfriend picking up Chinese food and to the movies. I felt so girly and pretty in it and can’t wait to wear it for an upcoming New Years party with friends.  The length is exactly what I wanted and I don’t find that the bow or the pleats overwhelm my frame or make me look too wide. When paired with slimmer tops, as I have done in the past, this skirt is a true stunner piece. IMG_3016

On this Christmas morning I opted for comfy flat boots and my mom’s 1980′s vintage cashmere turtleneck that she so kindly gifted me a few years back. I added gold baubles and my newest obsession: MAC’s Asian Flower lipstick. For anyone with green or hazel eyes, buy this! It really brings out the color of our eyes beautifully.
