Review: Topshop Giraffe Skirt

very old top (similar), Topshop giraffe print skirt, SPANX Assets tights, Steve Madden boots, vintage Gucci belt (very similar), Prada sunnies, Joan Hornig earrings (gifted)

I ordered this pencil skirt on a whim. I realized that I didn’t own many skirts appropriate for work and wanted something a bit different. Black and white is always a safe bet and I knew I would be able to find a million things in my closet to pair it with. As it turned out, the skirt fits perfectly off the rack and sits snugly around my hips and waist.

While the skirt does hug my rear-end a little tighter than I would have liked, I plan to always wear tights with it at work and keep things more demure everywhere else. Likewise, I work in a more casual office so this is more appropriate.

The skirt sits at the smallest part of my waist making it perfect to pair with high waist belts and tucked in shirts. I love the styling options with it and that the black/white combo goes well with black tights and boots. I’m already envisioning wedge ankle booties once I find the perfect pair.

Finally, the rise of the garment is about 3 inches above my knee and is a total of 20 inches in length, though shorter in the back to accommodate for my rear end. It also has some stretch to it, making it more comfortable for all-day wear.

I love this skirt and am thrilled with the surprising fit and find!

Cole Haan Cassidy Boot

Cole Haan Cassidy Boot

Cole Haan “Cassidy” Tall Boot

If you saw how many things I order online and return, you’d be surprised. Or maybe you wouldn’t (#addict. #jk). The allure of stores has been lost on me in recent years, and I find myself trusting online reviews and descriptions much more. Which brings me to my next point, boots. I have wanted a pair of heeled black boots forever. I’ve ordered, returned, and tried so many variations it’s sickening. My most recent acquisition are these Cole Haan Cassidy boots. I am taking a different approach, expanding beyond the wide-calf options and simply deciding to wear these scrunched for a more casual look. Stay tuned for a full report!

Wedge Military Ankle Boots With Skinny Jeans

J.Crew blazer, Ann Taylor sequins top (old, similar), Banana Republic skinny jeans, Kelsi Dagger wedges (this year’s), Tory Burch sunglasses (here in tortoise), Anthropologie necklace (old, amazing option)

I wore this outfit to work last week and to be honest, I wasn’t the most comfortable in it. I have had these Kelsi Dagger booties for ages but had never worn them with skinny jeans tucked in. I always felt that they “pegged” my legs too much and emphasized the width of my thighs. I decided to experiment last week and am not 100% convinced I love it. Hypocritical I know, considering I just did a post on black ankle booties, but i’m working on it!

What I do love is this sequins tank. If you can believe it, I have almost given this tank away so many times but now have rediscovered it and love pairing it in unexpected ways.

I’d love to know what you think of these booties. Honest opinions! I trust your objective eye and would love to know if I looked ridiculous last week at work.

Finally Found: Jumpsuit for Pearshaped Women

Macy’s Jumpsuit (wearing an XL), Cole Haan heels, Andrew Marc leather jacket (this year’s), Prada sunglasses, Kendra Scott necklace (similar)

A jumpsuit is one of those items I always envied on other women. Tall, thin women being able to pull off these adorable silk onesies with their sky high heels and no worries of rippling thigh issues underneath (harsh pearshape reality, yall). But about a week ago I was determined to find a jumpsuit that would fit me, and look flattering. I scoured ASOS to no avail, Nordstrom, etc., only finding options in silk that would surely not fit my thigh area, or would emphasize areas I didn’t necessarily wan’t emphasized with their slight sheen.

I stumbled across this jersey jumpsuit at Macy’s for $35 after discount, and pounced. Yes, it was jersey (not ideal) but I didn’t know what other fabric other than an uncomfortable poly-blend would look better, so I bought it. To my pleasure and surprise, it looks amazing and I feel so wonderful in it. For reference, I’m wearing a size XL and probably could have gotten away with a L but ordered big for safety.

I styled it here with a leather jacket which is how I plan to wear it most often in colder months, and with a different belt as the tie belt it comes with is removable. In reference to the garment itself, it is a wide-leg jumpsuit with a faux wrap top and snap closure at the bust for added discretion.

The suit does have pockets which create a bit of rippling, but I am thinking of getting them removed and/or sewn shut. I love that the jumpsuit has a full back and covered shoulders so us fuller-busted ladies are free to wear a supportive bra. And likewise, appreciate the higher waist for an even more flattering silhouette.

After seeing these pictures i’m more assured that next time I wear it I will slip on my SPANX Assets underneath just for some more support under the jersey fabric, but other than that, i’m so in love with this unique piece!
