Altering ASOS high-waisted work pants (a look before alterations)

ASOS pant alteration

ASOS Wide Leg Pants in Navy

I have always been frustrated with work clothing. Much like petites, pearshapes have a hard time finding work-appropriate clothing that fits off the rack. After discussing a few options that fit just fine (like these J.Crew pants, and these Macy’s trousers) I have yet to be completely satisfied with any untailored options. So, I have decided to take matters into my own hands and alter a pair of work pants. I decided to start out small and cheap. Always a fan of the uber flattering high waisted pant, I ordered these ASOS wide leg pants 3 sizes bigger than my normal size specifically to fit my hips and butt, and decided to take them to be altered down to fit my perfectly.

When the pants arrived they fit my hips and thighs beautifully. Not too snug but not too drape-y, perfect for the office. But, as expected, there was at least 4-5 inches of gap in the waist. Above is a picture of the pants all pinned up at the tailors with at least 1-2 inches taken in on each side (I opted for the pants to be taken in on the sides and sacrifice the pockets to avoid puckering in the tush). I am picking up the pants this weekend and will reveal the result next week! If you’re a follower of mine on Facebook or Twitter you know that I am trying to same trick with an on-sale Banana Republic work dress and will be showing those results soon as well!

Hi! I found your blog via laurenconrad.com and it’s adorable! Such a great niche. It’s about time us pear-shaped girls saw a little love in the fashion world! Best of luck.

Thank you, Anne! I agree, us pearshapes don’t get enough attention. And our bodies are among the hardest to dress!

I love this post! It inspires me to get my act together and get to the tailor’s. If I’m honest, I always feel like there’s something wrong with me if clothes don’t fit off the rack and I have to say, pants are a particular problem. I’m a pants-trying-on machine, but I feel like Goldilocks never getting the just right fit. I love the results here and they look so chic… everyone says that properly fitted clothes are the secret to style and your gorgeous results really bear that out. Thanks for the inspiration!

Kat you are too sweet! I used to think there was something wrong with me when clothes didn’t fit me off the rack. But I have since learned that even stars have their clothes altered and all of our bodies are different. A great tailor and understanding what works for your shape is most important :) Thank you so much for your kind words! xo
