For the Formal Party: Dress, Shoes, Earrings, Earrings, Clutch

With the festive season fast approaching, I thought i’d share some holiday outfit ideas i’ve been bookmarking lately. This year i’m so drawn to metallics and muted greens, instead of your typical red and gold. I’m also lovely the simplicity of dresses, and how easy they are to pair with statement earrings, an awesome shoe and a bold clutch for a quick party outfit.

Belt and Dress Pairings 101

Dress and Belt Pairings 101

One of the most popular questions I get via email or on social media surrounds belts and dresses. People always ask how I choose the width and type of belt I pair with each style of dress. So I thought I would put together this simple roundup explaining my rationale for the belts I choose to wear with each dress silhouette. Please let me know if you enjoy these roundups as it was definitely fun to look back in time and put it together!

Sheath/Bodycon: If we are being totally honest, I typically don’t like wearing belts with tighter dresses. In my mind my body has enough curves that simply pairing a statement necklace with a dress like this (to draw the eye upward) would be enough. However, in the event that I do want a bit more definition I always go for a thinner belt so as not to add bulk to the already slimming outfit. Furthermore, I like to tie a not in the belt to add a bit of interest so it doesn’t simply look like one stripe of color across a solid canvas.

Fit and Flare/Skater: This is, hands down, my go-to dress style. It is just so darn flattering on most body types and I love how it drapes over my hips and accentuates my waist. With these styles I typically like to choose a belt with a lot of interest right in the center. The width is of little importance (I would easily pair this dress with this belt), but having a bow or a wide buckle right in the center of the belt draws the eye inward even further.

Club Monaco Maxi (similar) + Yigal Azrouel vintage belt (cheaper wide belt option)

Maxi Dress: Maxi dresses, for me, scream for some definition. A body can easily get lost in all that fabric, especially if the neckline is higher and there is already little definition up top. To combat looking like i’m a big blob I always opt for big, thick belts when wearing a maxi. Regardless of the shape, flare or material, a big thick belt is always my go-to. It cinches the waist and makes you look tiny all around, showing the world that there is in fact a beautiful body hidden beneath!

I hope you enjoyed this roundup. Please let me know what you would like to see next! I love hearing your feedback and suggestions.

On The Hunt: Holiday Party Dress

Guys, I made a Black Friday/ Cyber Monday mistake. For weeks I have been looking for a dress to wear to my company’s holiday party. I ordered (only) 2 options during the sales this weekend absolutely, positively sure that at least one would fit and would be a winner. WRONG. I am now left dress-less and all the sales are over. Regardless, this girl needs something to wear. Here are a few i’m considering and would love your opinion as to which one could be a winner. Help a friend out?
