The Best $20 Dress I Ever Did See

Old Navy dress (wearing a size M), Zara bib (similar from Jewelmint), SPANX tights, J.Crew boots, LOFT coat (old)(similar)

It’s rare that I buy an item of clothing, put it on and feel like a million bucks instantly. That is pretty much what happened with this Old Navy number, and as an added bonus, it was less than $20 after sale. The fit is insanely perfect, the length is flirty and fun, and the material is a thickly knit weave that I appreciate from a discount store like ON.

While a few inches short for me to be comfortable wearing without tights, I love the look of it layered here with SPANX and boots for frigid SF “summer.” I also plan to use this dress for upcoming pool days in Macau with Cesar and visits to the beach. There is an exposed zip at the back for some added edge and a beautifully done center seam that gives just the right amount of definition.

For under $20 (or less) with the right sale, I plan to pick this up in other colors as well!

Gucci Clear “Handbag” & Casual Sunday Outfit

Brooks Brothers top, Jessica Simpson dress, Sweet & Spark necklace, Sam Edelman sandals, Prada sunglasses, Vintage Gucci “handbag” (similar)

I’m spending the early part of this week in San Diego with my family, and couldn’t be more excited to get in some suburban relaxation. Aside from the obvious amazing time with my loved ones, one of my favorite parts about coming home is scouring through my mom’s vintage treasures. This particular visit resulted in an unusual find: a Gucci clear cosmetics bag that I repurposed as a modern clutch.

A free “gift with purchase” from Gucci cosmetics ~20 years ago, this bag has been tucked away in my mom’s closet, perfectly preserved. After seeing similar bags on every major retailer, I couldn’t be more happy to have a luxury version for completely free! Thanks mom!

This got me thinking, every “gift with purchase” bag I receive can surely be repurposed in some way, be it in clutch, travel bag, or storage form.

Dressing to Combat Extreme Heat

Forever 21 dress (so old, similar here), J.Crew hat, Sam Edelman sandals, Prada sunglasses

This last weekend Cesar and I took a drive out to Sacramento to visit the state fair. I am entirely obsessed with fair food but was a little apprehensive about the weather. It was forecasted to be over 100F and I hadn’t dealt with heat like that since a years past trip to Israel in the Summer. I was sure to prepare, lathering on sunscreen, wearing my lightest dress around my thighs (no one likes chub rub), and donning a hat.

This ended up being the perfect outfit and I managed not to get burned! The hat was a godsend and the sandals held up pretty well.

Though a million years old, and originally costing somewhere around $15, this dress has gotten so many wears over the years.

Banana Republic Sheath Dress for Summer + Review

Banana Republic dress (in stores only, but very similar here online), Anthropologie pin, Sam Edelman sandals, Target clutch (old, amazing option here)

I wore this new Banana Republic dress in the sweltering heat while in DC visiting my best college girlfriends. We had an amazing weekend filled with brunches, late night talks, girly drinks and lots of laughs. I don’t think i’ve had that amazing of a weekend in a while and i’m so thankful I got to see them. In other news, this dress is wonderful. It is the first of it’s sheath kind in my closet and though it is very basic, when dressed up with a fun pin or a glam hat, I think it is going to be a great staple for Summer.

This particular dress is only sold in stores, unfortunately, but I love the line down the back to give some added interest, and the slight high-low hemline for extra coverage. It is a thick ponte material and has a cap sleeve that was a smidge too tight on my arms, but was easily fixed with a slight tug on either side.

As with any sheath, the dress was slightly roomy in my torso area but hung nicely over my hips. I walked without feeling like it was riding up and felt covered and comfortable all day.

Have an amazing Monday and thank you for reading!
