Review: Club Monaco “Leslie” Cotton Maxi Dress

Club Monaco maxi, Yigal Azrouel belt (vintage)(love this one), Macy’s pendant (similar), Sam Edelman sandals, Prada sunglasses

These last few days have been the absolute best. My best friend from college was in town and we spent our days running around the city, shopping, and chatting away. I rarely get to see her so it was such a joy to spend some uninterrupted time together. As you may have seen on Instagram, we did a bit of shopping and I popped into Club Monaco to browse their sale. While I walked away with only full priced items, i’m obsessed with everything I bought and can’t wait to review more.

This maxi dress is beyond amazing. It is made of a cotton, stretchy material and hugs in all the right places, while providing the perfect amount of breeze. It has two slits down either side that only come as high as the knee (great to keep peep shows in check), and is complete with gorgeous, subtle pleating on the bottom half. The pleats don’t add any bulk but rather interest to an otherwise basic piece.

The top portion is a fitted tank and the dress has an inch thick elasticized waist, which I very much appreciated, rather than the thin rope like elastic typically seen in cotton maxi’s. Lengthwise the dress was perfect (for reference I am a solid 5’6′), and I am wearing my usual size 10.

My only complaint about the dress: it comes with a little slip underneath that isn’t quite long enough for me, so as a result it rides up the tush… I plan to cut it out and wear my own slip. Very minor

I paired this outfit with my new love, this Yigal Azrouel belt I picked up on consignment at Cris, my favorite vintage boutique in Russian Hill. I also wore it to my brother’s wedding rehearsal dinner (see here)!

I’m a huge fan of this dress and have already worn it twice, completely justifying the heftier price tag in my mind. Please let me know if you try out this dress and what you think!

Styling Challenge: the Tiered, Drape Dress

tiered drape dress 2

Dress, Necklace, Shoes, Clutch

Every once in a while I order something online that is completely out of my comfort zone, a challenge. During ShopBop’s recent 30% off sale items I pulled the trigger on this tiered, drape dress that was on clearance. I typically don’t go for such loose fitting clothing, nor do I gravitate towards blousier tops, but I took a chance and have quite a bit of fun thinking about how I am going to style it. Above are just a few items i’m wishing were in my closet to accompany this piece.

I’ll be sure to give you all updates on how it looks/fits soon! Have a great weekend xo

Brother’s Wedding Rehearsal Dinner – A Nordstrom Maxi Dress Review

Nordstrom floral maxi dress (here in solid color)(here in plus size), Sam Edelman sandals, J.Crew belt, Alexis Bittar earrings, H&M necklace (old), YSL lipstick

As you’re reading this Cesar and I are in South Hampton, NY showering, primping, prepping and preparing for my brother’s wedding rehearsal dinner! Over the last year you have read about engagement parties and bridal shower style, all leading up to this weekend. For their rehearsal dinner (hosted at a gorgeous winery), I will be opting for this pleated floral maxi I found at Nordstrom a few months back. It fits me like a glove and with it’s fully lined interior, it will be perfectly comfortable for the evening.

Admittedly, I got all dolled up weeks ago when Lydia was in town to shoot this outfit. Knowing full well that this weekend would prove too busy to shoot the dress, I wanted to be sure you had all the details for your own wedding season. In short, I am in love with this dress. It feels incredibly etherial when worn and drapes beautifully. While I would have preferred a v-neck style, i’ve come to the realization that maxis are simply never adorned with my favorite neckline.

One thing I did want to note is that this dress does run slightly large. I’m wearing a size 8 here (typically a size 10 dress) and it zips wonderfully. The lining isn’t too snug over my hips and I will be wearing it this evening with zero alterations.

I might be changing up the accessories for tonight but this is an idea of what I will be pairing it with in the future. Nude/metallic accents for Summer and for this particular evening rehearsal dinner, I might be changing out the shoes for the ones seen here, adding black accent jewelry, and a belt like this.

Have a wonderful weekend and if you’re on Instagram be sure to follow along on the wedding adventures with me, and my brother’s very own wedding hashtag: #HHWedding!

Wearing a Jersey Maxi

J.Crew gingham top (here in solids), Gap maxi dress (similar), J.Crew belt, Sam Edelman sandals, Prada sunglasses, YSL lipstick

This is seriously one of my favorite new outfits. A comfy jersey maxi paired with longer length button up is cinched at the waist with a thick belt. I mean, could it be any more perfect for San Francisco?

I also love tying this maxi up in the corner. I think it creates more interest and dimension in the outfit and also breaks up the awkward ankle-length that this dress tends to hit me.

See the other way I styled this maxi dress here!
