Reader Styling: Tropical Vacation

Summer Styling

Kate Spade earrings, Sigerson Morrison wedges, LOFT dress (i own last years, see it here), Prada sunglasses, Target scarf, Rebecca Minkoff bag

One of my favorite things about writing this blog is hearing from my readers. Be it through comments, tweets or emails, I really feel like ThePearShape has created a little community and I love it more than anything. But perhaps my favorite thing to do with readers is give something back, personally. Every so often a gorgeous gal will email me asking for styling tips, ways to rework her wardrobe to make it more flattering, key pieces to invest in for one event or another that are tailored to her size, and shape. Putting together these outfits and really thinking about the key pieces that will make that girl look amazing on her day brings me such joy.

With that said, every once in a while I will be featuring an outfit I have put together for a dear reader. For this first time, it is a variation of the outfit above for my sweet reader, Hayley, who asked for some basics for her upcoming Mexican vacation with her boyfriend. I focused on pattern mixing, well fitting dresses, and classic wear-with-everything wedges to give her an outfit that would serve her well not only in Mexico, but beyond.

If you ever need help with a particular garment, outfit ideas, or questions on fit, please do not hesitate to reach out. I absolutely love to do it. I promise, I will try to get to as many as possible.

As always, thank you for reading.

Brand Love: Ted Baker Party Dress

IMG_7016-2

Ted Baker dress (here in black), Cole Haan pumps, Chanel WOC, Juicy Couture earrings

Ted Baker is quickly becoming a brand favorite. In the last few months alone I have bought 2 Ted Baker dresses for important family events (see on Instagram) and am absolutely thrilled with both. This stunning royal blue number was for my cousin’s wedding this past weekend and served the purpose beautifully. It was flirty and fun, flattering and still warm for the outdoor ceremony.

I particularly love the fullness in the sleeves. The dramatic shoulder accent helps to balance the hips and the pleats camouflage any issues on the bottom half without adding bulk. The length is perfection and the thick cotton/sateen material is totally forgiving.

Review: J.Crew Black/White Geometric Sundress

IMG_6871-2

J.Crew dress (released only in stores), Cole Haan pumps , LOFT coat (similar), Revlon Color Burst lipgloss

While in Union Square last week I stumbled non-chalantly into J.Crew. Recently disheartended by the majority of their selection, and the way that it fits pearshapes, I wasn’t expecting to find anything at all that I love. But that darn 25% off lured me in, so browsing I went. I wasn’t finding anything I loved, even on the rack, and then I spotted this black and white beauty. With geometric designs, a narrowed, banded waist and flattering length, I immediately went to try it on.

Lo and behold, a size 10 fit beautifully in the waist, was even roomy in the hips, and sat exactly where I like my dresses to rest on my natural waist. The black and white bands are not placed in awkward parts of the body, but rather work well to continue to enhance an hourglass frame. The straps allow for a bra and the buttoned front allowed me to fold down the sides, creating a v-neck look.

The thick, woven knit material keeps this dress from flowing in the wind too much and was perfect for a recent rehearsal dinner. Finally, the dress is fully lined meaning no visible underwear colors! In all, i’m in love. My perfect black and white Spring/Summer dress. The only bummer? It’s so weird but it is only sold in stores! I couldn’t find it on the J.Crew website and called to confirm. At this point, you can only pop into your local J.Crew to get it.

What do you think of this J.Crew piece? Has anyone else tried it on?

Quick solution for a dress that feels too tight

IMG_6751-2

Theory sweater (similar. buy a few sizes up for a slouchy fit), LOFT dress (similar), vintage Chanel flats, Anthropologie necklace

Recently i’ve been feeling a little self-conscious in certain dresses that I own. Maybe it is that they shrunk in the wash, or I gained weight in that area, but tight fitting dresses that pull over my stomach have been making me feel uncomfortable. I wore this dress a ton last season and love its simplicity yet flattering cut on a pearshape. To make myself more comfortable in it I layered a thin knit and chunky necklace to draw the eye upward away from my stomach and the horizontal stripe of the dress.

I tucked the sweater under a bit to keep it from hitting me at my widest part and cutting straight across my rear end. The thinness of the sweater still allows some visibility of my shape but provides warmth and another layer.

In other news, I feel like my hair looks a bit drab and dry in these photos. Does anyone have any recs for great products to combat this? I’d be forever grateful! xo
