Review: J.Crew Black/White Geometric Sundress

J.Crew dress (released only in stores), Cole Haan pumps , LOFT coat (similar), Revlon Color Burst lipgloss

While in Union Square last week I stumbled non-chalantly into J.Crew. Recently disheartended by the majority of their selection, and the way that it fits pearshapes, I wasn’t expecting to find anything at all that I love. But that darn 25% off lured me in, so browsing I went. I wasn’t finding anything I loved, even on the rack, and then I spotted this black and white beauty. With geometric designs, a narrowed, banded waist and flattering length, I immediately went to try it on.

Lo and behold, a size 10 fit beautifully in the waist, was even roomy in the hips, and sat exactly where I like my dresses to rest on my natural waist. The black and white bands are not placed in awkward parts of the body, but rather work well to continue to enhance an hourglass frame. The straps allow for a bra and the buttoned front allowed me to fold down the sides, creating a v-neck look.

The thick, woven knit material keeps this dress from flowing in the wind too much and was perfect for a recent rehearsal dinner. Finally, the dress is fully lined meaning no visible underwear colors! In all, i’m in love. My perfect black and white Spring/Summer dress. The only bummer? It’s so weird but it is only sold in stores! I couldn’t find it on the J.Crew website and called to confirm. At this point, you can only pop into your local J.Crew to get it.

What do you think of this J.Crew piece? Has anyone else tried it on?

A bulky sweater that is slimming

Another set of stunning photos for your Thursday morning. Lydia, that lady, is quite the talent. I had to have her document this sweater because I think it is one of my favorite, most unique pieces and definitely a winning purchase from Gilt. It is Rachel Zoe and the softest, slinkiest fabric. I was originally really worried about the fit of this sweater. I thought it would be bulky and not flattering on my frame but the rouching in the back and the high neckline make it quite slimming.

I love that the sweater rouches into a deep-v on my back. It makes my upper back look quite sexy yet still covers bra straps and any bulging around the bra line. The string in the back is completely adjustable so I look forward to pulling it tighter in Summer and making this cropped in the back. The way the fabric loosely drapes in the front coupled with the subtle tailoring and high neckline make this very flattering on my big-busted figure.

Furthermore, I don’t know if you can tell but the sweater has a thick ribbing on the bottom providing some extra structure.

On an unrelated note, how baller is this Michael Kors bracelet my mom let me borrow this weekend? Seriously, the woman has some taste. Thanks mom!

Old Navy Floral Wrap Dress

Old Navy wrap dress, Sam Edelman heels, Marc Jacobs + J.Crew bracelets, Nordstrom Rack earrings

As I mentioned last week, Saturday was my soon-to-be sister-in-law’s Bridal Shower. It was held in a gorgeous restaurant in New York and all of her closest family and friends were there. For the event I knew I wanted to look my best while maintaining conservatism, but with some color and vibrancy. I spotted this Old Navy dress on a few other bloggers weeks ago and immediately jumped on buying it. As it turns out, it is one of the best fitting dresses I own, and for only around $25!

Wrap dresses are a dream come true for the pearshape. They hit at the knee hiding any problem areas with the legs while camouflaging the hips and thighs. This particular one wrapped right at my smallest part and had a deep v in the front elongating my neck. With long sleeves to hide any upper-arm problems and a bold pattern to hide any imperfections, this was such a winner. I think this means i’ll be investing in a true DVF iconic wrap dress soon.

By the way, this weekend I also had the distinct pleasure of shooting a few looks with the insanely talented Lydia Hudgens. How amazing are these photos?!

Quickie Review: Gap “Sexy Boyfriend” and “Sexy Boot” jeans for Pearshapes

photo (17) photo (14)

I wandered into Gap this weekend in NYC with my mom and thought I would try on a few things to (hopefully) add to my wardrobe for Spring/Summer. Now, let me start out by saying I can’t believe i’m posting these pictures. They are a) super unflattering and b) show exactly what (super large) sizes I tried on. But, I love you guys so much and in the name of pearshapes, here it is!

First up was the Sexy Boyfriend, tried on as a hopeful replacement for these self-created boyfriend jeans of mine. These were terrible. I ended up sizing up to a 33 from my normal 30…. I mean, I don’t understand what is going on with Gap but nothing fit. Even at a 33 these jeans were wayyy too small in the hip/thigh area and much to big in the waist. Material was stiff and not stretchy and even the length was awkward. Total dud.

Next up was the Sexy Bootcut jean in white. I have been searching for white jeans for years. Nothing is ever flattering and maybe i’m kidding myself by thinking i’ll someday find one I like on my body. But please be advised: these are not them. Much too tight in the hip/thigh and didn’t even fit 2/3 of my rear end into the back. No thank you.

So, Gap, I think i’m done with you for a while. Your jeans don’t fit girls with hips, make some that do! (P.S. I know their “curvy” bootcut jean exists but in my opinion it still fits like their other jeans and is cut much too narrow)
