Review: GAP Skinny Ankle Utility Chino

I’m excited to review another pant that has recently become a favorite in my wardrobe: the GAP skinny ankle utility chino. I’m wearing them in the army green color, and let me just tell you that they are so versatile and have worked their way into outfits of mine, weekly.

On top of the awesome color choices, the fit was stellar right off the rack. I did have to size up in these, i’m wearing a 14, but I did that mostly because I wanted a bit of a baggier look, rather than a skin-tight jean kind of look.

These pants have about a 28 inch inseam, making them just ankle length when rolled down, and perfectly messy when rolled as I have them here. They also have a mid-rise, coming to just below my belly button.

I absolutely adore the long side pocket look and don’t think it adds any additional bulk.

If I could make one complaint about these pants it would be that the back pockets are flaps that close with a snap closure, and never quite stay securely shut. This isn’t the cutest look when walking around the office, but I find that I just close them every time I use the restroom and the problem is solved.

Are there any other pants you’ve found and are loving lately? I’m always on the hunt!

My Current Favorite Jeans

Top (currently 25% off!), Jeans (currently 40% off), Shoes

Let me just say this: I don’t take jean buying lightly. It’s a painful process, they’re largely uncomfortable to wear, and in the end, few pairs are flattering.

I’ve personally spent many many weekend days, and online ordering binges (as i’m sure you have) trying to find the perfect jean. I’ve come close a few times, but these Banana Republic Sculpt Skinny Jeans are as close as i’ve come as a size 12-14 woman.

First thing’s first, they’re the right length. They’re about 32″ in length, which for me is absolutely ideal for rolling. If you read this post, you’ll know that i’m a huge fan of messily rolling pant legs and actually prefer a bit of additional length over a perfectly fitted pant leg.

On the topic of color, these jeans have no crazy wiskering or fading. There’s nothing worse than fading on the front of your thighs (this will make them appear bigger), or on your rear end. These are nice, clean, gently faded dark blue jeans. Perfect.

Finally, the pocket placement in the back is ideal. Tip from me to you: avoid jeans with pockets that are set too far apart in the back. This will only make your butt look bigger. Closer pockets with a bit of a slant draw the eye inward, perfect for ladies with a substantial tush.

And last but not least: rise. Ugh. I can’t even tell you how perfect these are. They hit me about an inch below my belly button, with no gaping in the back. They sit flat on my stomach and don’t do that annoying thing that some jeans do when they dig into your stomach when you sit. With a mix of 80% cottom, 13% polyester and elastane, they have just enough give to be perfect throughout the whole day.

Please do share if you try these jeans, and let me know your opinion.

Also also also! I’ll be reviewing Khloe Kardashian’s new denim line Good American in the next week or so after I receive the 3 pairs I ordered this morning. It was designed to fit curvy women, and was made in sizes 0-24. Stay tuned.

Autumn Wedding Attire

In my opinion, the Autumn wedding is totally underrated. The weather is a bit cooler, allowing for the most beautiful of wedding attire, without the added pressure of sleeveless or short dresses that Summer weddings demand.

I bought this DVF silk maxi skirt for our Sunday Brunch post-wedding, and pulled it out for my very good friend Kate’s October wedding this last weekend. It made for the perfect statement piece to pair with all-black accessories.

On top of the statement, this skirt is incredibly comfortable. it is a wrap style, secured closed by two leather buckles on either side. AND, the buckles are adjustable! Such a great feature. I’m wearing a size 12 in these photos and with my recent fluctuation in weight, i’ve been able to tighten or loosen the buckles to fit appropriately.

Ya girl’s still got it!

Restated Love for the J.Crew Pixie Pant

Top, Pants, Shoes, Bag (here in black), Sunglasses (here with green lenses)

Today’s post is dedicated to my all-time favorite pant: the J.Crew Pixie pant. I’ve purchased over 10 pairs of these pants, and worn through each one. There is no other pant on the market that is comfortable, versatile, and makes me feel great.

The thing I love most about the Pixie pant is the way it hugs the body. The fabric is very thick, and the waist is high, making the legs and tummy feel sucked in and lean unlike thinner, less form-fitting pants.

Pixie’s are also 100% opaque unlike many other leggings. On busy days, i’ve been known to wear these pants to work.

Also, can we talk about these sunglasses. Amaze.

This post wouldn’t be complete without talking about the (albeit few) pitfalls of the Pixie pant:

1. They wear out. The zipper on these pants is in the back, and wears out over about 6 months of wear
2. They are dry-clean only. Not a deal breaker for me, but annoying for sure.
3. They aren’t cropped in length. I like all of my skinny pants to hit right above my ankle, and these are full length. I combat this issue by rolling the hems as I do with most of my bottoms, but it’s something that should be noted.
