Opinion: To Cut A Dress, or Not To Cut A Dress?

IMG_0221-2Banana Republic dress (absolutely ancient, amazing similarly patterned one here), Sam Edelman sandals, Prada sunglasses

I need you’re opinion. I’ve had this dress since I was 16 (not joking). I bought it for my little brother’s middle school graduation and have worn it so many times I can’t even tell you. But upon putting it on yesterday the length sort of started to bother me. The flattering wrap shape and the v-neck line are still absolute favorites, but the awkward 2-inches-below-the-knee length bugged me. So, I ask you dear readers, do I get it tailored to 2 inches above the knee, or not?

IMG_0188-2Gosh that waist is flattering. Who knew the dressing for your shape thing could start at such a young age! I’ve got an eye ladies! *wink*

Reworking a Club Monaco Maxi

IMG_0146-2

Aritzia top (love this one from Equipment), Club Monaco maxi (last styled here), Madewell belt, Sam Edelman sandals

Bringing an Outfit of the Day from Instagram to the blog for a change! Just a casual daytime outfit reworking my favorite Club Monaco maxi for a sunny but chilly day in the city. I added a classic belt to cinch the waist and fun curly hair for an even more casual look. To achieve this layered look simply take your favorite silk shirt, button the first two buttons and tie the remaining in a knot. Tuck it under a wider belt and you’re done!

Review: Madewell Deckhouse Sweater

IMG_0102-2

Gap jean jacket, Madewell sweater, ASOS scarf (similar), J.Crew pixie pants and boots, Tory Burch sunglasses

Since moving to San Francisco i’ve found myself stocking up on sweaters. Because the temperature isn’t freezing, but also isn’t warm enough for short sleeves or just a long sleeve t-shirt, lightweight sweaters are essential for surviving here. This Madewell striped number is a departure from anything else I own and i’m loving the slouchy fit but girly detail with the low neckline. And, confession, this is only the second patterned sweater I have. I know, i’m bad.

Oh, and because i’m always up for a fashion challenge, I took on one of my readers who dared me to style a leather dress in a flattering way. So, I give you the leather dress styled for day and evening!

Leather Dress Styled Two Ways + Video!

Daytime Outfit: J.Crew sweater (similar), DVF dress, SPANX tights, J.Crew boots

The styling of a leather dress started as a reader challenge, posted on Twitter. Always willing to take on a style challenge, and having wanted a leather dress for years, I went on a hunt. It took quite a while, but in this year’s Nordstrom anniversary sale I came across this stunning DVF piece for 75% off it’s original price…I literally jumped for joy. With stunning buttery leather panels and the most flattering fit and flare shape, I have worn this dress countless times already and wanted to share two simple day and night stylings with you here.

For day, to tone down the dominatrix-esque feel of leather, I layered a casual white sweater and used a belt to cinch in the waist and keep the sweater from draping over my tummy. Basic boots and loose curls complete the daytime look.

For evening, I went a little more glam, showcasing the leather and my shape by layering underneath:

Evening Outfit: J.Crew blouse, DVF Dress, Sam Edelman sandals

A basic white blouse and red lips allow the full focus to be on the dress, complete with exposed zipper and stretch back. The fit and flare makes my waist look tiny and the covered chest area balances the short length.

I’m so in love with the stretch back of this dress that allows it to truly hug my figure, making for a perfect fit off the rack!

I want to start doing a little bit more animation with my outfit posts so I put together a little video for these particular pairings in an effort to showcase the movement and beauty of this dress. I hope you enjoy!

Thanks so much for reading and to Mallory Mitchell for shooting these photos!
