Club Monaco Bubble Hem Top & Gucci Repurposed “Clutch”

Club Monaco top, Paige jeans, Ferragamo pumps, Prada sunglasses, Gucci “clutch”, J.Crew bracelets (1, 2)

I fell in love with this top during a shopping trip with my bestie when she was in town last week. She always pushes me further out of my comfort zone when it comes to clothing (fact: she was the inspiration behind pegged jeans!) and I love her so much for it. The bubble hem and draped fabric of this piece are not usually characteristics I gravitate towards but when worn right, I think it is going to be a staple for Summer.

I chose a slightly wider leg jean/trouser to pair with this top in order to counterbalance some of the heaviness. Neutral, unobtrusive shoes add to the streamlined look and bold sunglasses draw the eye up. I also chose relatively unassuming accessories to allow the top to have all of the focus.

My favorite feature of this top are the side ties. It allows me to adjust the fullness of the top and adds some interest to the sides and away from the heavy drape in the front.

Another fun tidbit of this outfit is this “clutch!” It is actually a sunglasses case I got with a pair of Gucci sunglasses a while back that folds down into the shape you see here. I put a few cards and my lone house key in it for nights out and it acts as the perfect Gucci “clutch,” for free! I highly recommend asking for this sunglasses case the next time you purchase a pair in a department store.

4th of July Weekend

IMG_1806 IMG_1807

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe 4th of July weekend! Ours was spectacular. We spent Thursday evening with some of our interweb favorites Luci and Camille, and enjoyed one of the best meals i’ve had in a while. We each contributed something and I give myself a pat on the back when I say my white chocolate and sprinkle covered strawberries and pretzels were a hit!

Just a few ladies hamming it up for the camera and Cesar bonding with Camille’s pint sized pup. Nothing like a big man and a small dog to make for the funniest picture in the world.

Friday July 5th Cesar and I celebrated our actual 3 year dating anniversary (you may remember our anniversary pictures here and here). We spent an amazing day at the Exploratorium (so great!) and walking through Fisherman’s warf.

Ironically, on that celebratory day I went entirely makeupless. Cesar says he prefers it that way. Just one of the many things I love about him. I am definitely feeling grateful to have this man in my life!

Regular outfit posting returning tomorrow!

Review: Club Monaco “Leslie” Cotton Maxi Dress

Club Monaco maxi, Yigal Azrouel belt (vintage)(love this one), Macy’s pendant (similar), Sam Edelman sandals, Prada sunglasses

These last few days have been the absolute best. My best friend from college was in town and we spent our days running around the city, shopping, and chatting away. I rarely get to see her so it was such a joy to spend some uninterrupted time together. As you may have seen on Instagram, we did a bit of shopping and I popped into Club Monaco to browse their sale. While I walked away with only full priced items, i’m obsessed with everything I bought and can’t wait to review more.

This maxi dress is beyond amazing. It is made of a cotton, stretchy material and hugs in all the right places, while providing the perfect amount of breeze. It has two slits down either side that only come as high as the knee (great to keep peep shows in check), and is complete with gorgeous, subtle pleating on the bottom half. The pleats don’t add any bulk but rather interest to an otherwise basic piece.

The top portion is a fitted tank and the dress has an inch thick elasticized waist, which I very much appreciated, rather than the thin rope like elastic typically seen in cotton maxi’s. Lengthwise the dress was perfect (for reference I am a solid 5’6′), and I am wearing my usual size 10.

My only complaint about the dress: it comes with a little slip underneath that isn’t quite long enough for me, so as a result it rides up the tush… I plan to cut it out and wear my own slip. Very minor

I paired this outfit with my new love, this Yigal Azrouel belt I picked up on consignment at Cris, my favorite vintage boutique in Russian Hill. I also wore it to my brother’s wedding rehearsal dinner (see here)!

I’m a huge fan of this dress and have already worn it twice, completely justifying the heftier price tag in my mind. Please let me know if you try out this dress and what you think!

Little Details

Andrew Marc leather jacket (similar), Paige jeans, Madewell top, Nordstrom flats, Sweet and Spark necklace, gifted earrings

A few more photos snapped by my bestie yesterday during our walk around the city. The weather was so beautiful and warm during the day but quickly cooled down as the sun began to set, so I threw on my trusty leather jacket. This outfit is relatively basic but the little details like the pattern on the shirt, “tassel” necklace and gorgeous earrings make me love it.

I bought this necklace from Jillian a few weeks back and have worn it with everything. It even made an appearance at my brother’s wedding rehearsal dinner!

These earrings were a very generous gift from my sister-in-law to her bridesmaids at her wedding a few weekends ago. I was entirely blown away and absolutely love them, they are so beautiful!

Thank you for reading and I hope everyone is having a wonderful week! Follow along on my adventures with my girlfriend on Instagram.
