How To Wear Flare Jeans

IMG_1051

Let’s put flares on the list of things I never thought i’d own. They always felt clunky and like they were adding weight to my bottom half instead of detracting from it. But guys, i’m hooked. Few pants have made me felt slimmer and sexier than these.

When wearing a pant with a wide leg, I always like to keep the top simple but bold. No patterns or big volume, but a punchy color to draw the eye upward.

You may have noticed, but my solution to most things in life is: tuck, tuck, tuck.

Here’s my thinking: When wearing flared pants, you want your legs to look as long as possible. That’s sort of the point. So, tuck the shirt into the front of the pants to show the top of the pant line. This will make your legs look miles long and won’t cut them off mid-hip where your shirt ends.

What are your thoughts on flares?

Joie Jacket (so old, similar here), Banana Republic Cashmere top c/o (here in dusty pink) – wearing a size XL, Madewell “Lucy” flare jeans – wearing a size 32, Ivanka Trump shoes

Fitted Bottoms + Voluminous Tops

Truth be told, this is how I spend most weekends. My husband and I wander around San Francisco dressed down with a drink in hand.

I love the combo of a wider top and a slimmer/more fitted bottom and have found myself gravitating towards this silhouette in recent months.

My recommendation when choosing a more voluminous top is to be sure the pants sit very tight to the leg. I have a tutorial for cuffing jeans and pants here, and still use this method today.

My Typical Weekend Outfit

Top (from Madewell and a bit old, but it’s this shirt – i’m wearing a size XL for a baggier fit)
Vest (i’m wearing a size L)
Pants (i’m wearing a US12)
Shoes

If we’re being totally honest, this is what I look like all.weekend.long. and what I wish I could look like throughout my work week. Stretchy pants, oversized tops, tennis shoes and no makeup (could you tell?)

These pants were my attempt at dressing up the standard legging. They’re so supremely comfortable, add a bit of additional style with the side stripes and go with everything.

Paired with a flannel shirt and a vest? Solid.

Review: GAP Skinny Ankle Utility Chino

Top (here in navy), Pants (currently 40% off), Shoes (vintage, similar here), Bag, Sunglasses (the color I have is sold out, but here they are in black and tortoise)

I’m excited to review another pant that has recently become a favorite in my wardrobe: the GAP skinny ankle utility chino. I’m wearing them in the army green color, and let me just tell you that they are so versatile and have worked their way into outfits of mine, weekly.

On top of the awesome color choices, the fit was stellar right off the rack. I did have to size up in these, i’m wearing a 14, but I did that mostly because I wanted a bit of a baggier look, rather than a skin-tight jean kind of look.

These pants have about a 28 inch inseam, making them just ankle length when rolled down, and perfectly messy when rolled as I have them here. They also have a mid-rise, coming to just below my belly button.

I absolutely adore the long side pocket look and don’t think it adds any additional bulk.

If I could make one complaint about these pants it would be that the back pockets are flaps that close with a snap closure, and never quite stay securely shut. This isn’t the cutest look when walking around the office, but I find that I just close them every time I use the restroom and the problem is solved.

Are there any other pants you’ve found and are loving lately? I’m always on the hunt!
