Double Vested: Layering Vests & Retaining Shape

Banana Republic vest (similar & awesome), Zara knit vest (last seen here), Everlane silk collarless top (invite), J.Crew Pixie pant, Hunter Huntress boots (full review here), Prada sunglasses, Gap bow belt (similar)

After a gorgeous Saturday and Sunday, Memorial Day Monday was gloomy and rainy, in typical San Francisco fashion. Boyfriend and I didn’t want to stay cooped up inside so I pulled back out my cold-weather gear and layered to the best of my abilities. I relied on my trusty rain boots to keep my feet warm, and wanted to be comfortable up top. Refusing to don my Winter coats, I layered two thinner vests for a makeshift outwear piece and loved the versatility and styling options it created.

The Zara draped knit vest was a perfect under piece which I quickly wrapped around myself for added warmth. I secured it in place with my favorite bow belt to define my waist, and threw on my best-ever Banana Republic purchase: faux fur hiking vest.

Layered underneath was my new favorite silk button down: Everlane collarless silk (pictured here in light grey) (invite). Messy hair and my go-to sunglasses pulled it all together. I’m entirely obsessed with the effortlessly chic vibe it created and am already dreaming of new textured layering pieces for cooler months.

The Best Peplum for Spring

Ted Baker peplum top, Banana Republic Skinny jeans, DSW wedges, Alexis Bittar earrings

Admittedly, I have purchased many a peplum top (here and here) in the hopes of finding one that fit. In theory, they are the perfect piece for pearshapes: they nip in at the waist creating definition, graze over the tummy and over the hips, and add to our already hourglass figure. However, when done improperly they end up making us look pregnant or disproportioned. Common issues include: peplums that hit just below the chest creating a dowdy appearance, too short at the bottom resulting in mis-proportion. This floral stunner from Ted Baker not only reaffirms my love for the brand, but my belief in the power of a well fitting peplum.

This particular top has crapped sleeves for a bit of extra coverage, and is made of a layered silk material for amazing drape. It is double layered so it is not see-through and has the most stunning floral print, perfect for warmer or cooler months.

It has a front slit (perfect for a larger chest), and seams that run straight down the front and back creating added definition. Finally, and most importantly, the peplum begins 2 inches below my bust, and hits a few inches above the largest/widest part of my hips. This allows my chest room to breathe and definition to be created between the bottom of my bust and the small of my waist. The length doesn’t accentuate my hips but grazes over the smallest part, adding width only where I want it.

Color me obsessed. Have you found a great fitting peplum? Do share!

Evening Dinner Outfit: Tone on Tone

Oia Jules earrings, LOFT top (similar), Francescas Boutique skirt (similar), YSL #27 lipstick

Notice my really hot farmers tan? Chic, I know. In all seriousness, I don’t think i’ve been complimented on an outfit more than I was wearing this one in a long time. For some reason, cream on cream works for this girl!

Plus, this giraffe print skirt added the perfect amount of whimsy to a date night with my man.

Have an amazing Tuesday lovebugs!

Steve Madden Wedges, Ted Baker Peplum, Steven by Steve Madden Wedges

Just a snapshot of a few things i’ve purchased recently. If you can’t tell, i’m looking for a pair of my new favorite (comfortable) summer wedges and will not rest until I find them…If you all have recommendations for a gold, wedge sandal that is slightly dressier, i’m also looking for a pair of those for an upcoming wedding. Thanks a bunch!

On another note, that peplum top in the middle has become my single. favorite. clothing item. It fits like a dream, and is so flattering. Full outfit post coming soon. Get ready, it’s a stunner.
