ASOS Grandpa Cardigan

ASOS Grandpa Cardigan (more options below), J.Crew Pixie pants, Steve Madden boots, Kenneth Cole bag (amazing option)

I snagged this grandpa bow cardigan on ASOS during Black Friday, and it was a total departure for me. I like to use huge sale days to scoop things up I wouldn’t ordinarily purchase. Maybe I consider the discount an excuse to experiment with more items? Regardless of the reasoning, this sweater is basically what i’ve always preached against as a pearshaped woman. It covers my tush and is shapeless: two no-no’s in my book. However, and this is a big however, the smaller details of this cardigan that make it flattering and unique are what drew me in.

I love that the cardigan is a unique color and print. I’ve been trying to incorporate more new printed pieces into my wardrobe and comfy sweaters are the easiest way to do that. The grandpa style is also a unique shape for me and i’ve found so many unique ways to wear it: layered over flippy skirts, over leggings as shown here or black jeans for work.

The pattern has also allowed me to experiment with pattern mixing (a well documented obsession), and I love how the baby blue acts as a pseudo neutral when paired with an all-black ensemble. The leopard and black of this Kenneth Cole bag pair so beautifully with the subtle blue.

Finally, the length of the cardigan is what truly sold me. It hits about 1-2 inches below my tush, not fully cutting me off at my widest point. It also allows for enough length to be belted with tights or leggings.

Here are a few other oversized cardigans i’m loving for this season if baby blue and bows don’t tickle your fancy:

DUO Custom Calf Boots

DUO Bassey custom-calf boot

Ladies! I seriously cannot scream this from the rooftop loud enough: I found a solution to wide-calf problems! The kindest of readers in my last post complaining about a lack of wide-calf boots recommended a company called DUO. They are a UK based brand that makes custom width boots for ladies with wide or thin calves. Absolutely desperate for a pair high heeled leather boots, I ordered these Bassey’s and love them. The calf circumference fits me amazingly, the heel is a perfect 4 inches with a 1 inch platform, and the leather is so supple.

This particular style is a zip on with the zipper at the back of the calf. The heel is stacked and the toe is a gorgeous round almond shape. The interior is lightly padded making them great for colder weather and the sole is also lightly padded for walkability. I seriously couldn’t recommend checking out this brand more.

P.S. totally not a sponsored post, I just love this brand!

Review: Club Monaco Faux Fur Vest

Club Monaco vest, Madewell shirtdress (old)(amazing style here), SPANX tights, Anthropologie necklace (old)(similar), DUO boots (review coming soon!)

My parents were gracious enough to buy me this faux fur vest for Hanukkah this year. After countless meetings seeing me in my DIY version, my mom decided it was time to upgrade. I’ve never owned anything quite like this before, always assuming that a boxy fur vest would add bulk. However, only having had it for a few weeks, I find myself wanting to layer it over everything, and it is fast becoming one of the most versatile items in my closet.

As you can see from the picture above, I chose a charcoal, black/white mix faux fur and love that the longer length of the strands makes it unique, while the color palette makes it a neutral. It has no closure in the front but acts almost like a shrug, with a slight gape in the front on my size 8-10 frame.

For reference, i’m wearing a size L and it fits beautifully. I envision styling this belted, over basic blouses and jeans and even with jean skirts as the weather warms just a tad. I am so in love with this piece! It just proves once again that sometimes breaking out of your comfort zone pays off.

Fitting Room Review: French Connection Sparkle Dress

photo (2)-2

French Connection Sparkle Dress

Bad picture and terrible lighting, but I had to share with you guys that I popped into Nordstrom last weekend and tried on the French Connection dress from my Holiday Dress post. When I asked for everyone’s opinion on that roundup about which dress to order for my office Holiday party, overwhelmingly the response was this one, so I thought it deserved at least a fitting room review.

In short, I wasn’t pleased. The dress is very short (only barely covered my tush), fit very big off the rack (i’m wearing a 10 here and swimming in it), and had oddly shaped sleeves. The sleeves were capped but ended up coming very low on my armpits and having this weird bunching issue around the shoulders. Furthermore, the waist seam of this dress hung very low on me. I had high hopes for this one but it just didn’t make the cut. But, good news, I ordered this one in the mail and will be sure to review it when it arrives! Here is to hoping it’s a winner.
