J.Crew Fluted Skirt Review

Ann Taylor blazer (old, similar), J.Crew skirt, Cole Haan heels, Revlon lipstick, Prada sunnies

Let’s start off by saying that this skirt is mini. Like, definitely shorter than most things I would wear, but i’m in love with it. You saw in my Fall haul that I ordered it during J.Crew’s 25% off sale and couldn’t be happier with the fit. For reference, I ended up ordering a size 12 instead of my usual 10 because I knew the shape would sit lower on my hips and I wanted to avoid any tightness. I’m wearing it here with bare legs and a blazer (can we talk about how warm it has been in the bay area? Crazytown) but can’t wait to pair it with leggings and boots for cooler months.

Also, i’m entirely obsessed with dark lips and this Revlon lip color that was on mega sale at Walgreens.

I wanted to get some photos without the jacket so you could see the true fit. For starters, the skirt fits off the rack with no alterations (miracle). It makes my tummy area feel so slim and I love the seaming around the skirt that feels like it really holds you in. The skirt is a crepe, thick material with a hook and zip back.

The fluted seam hits right above my hip’s widest part and then flares, which, I thought would be unflattering but I actually am loving. It is a mini length and does tend to ride up a tad when walking because of the silk-like lining. Because I will be wearing this with tights I personally don’t see this as an issue, but should be noted.

Overall, I love the skirt and when it’s on sale, it’s even better. I envision wearing this with longer length sweaters, belted for definition, creating a faux-drop waist look.

And, have a great week!

Three Prints for Fall

LOFT jacket (similar), Piperlime sweater, BDG jeans, Adam Tucker shoes, Prada sunglasses

Remember when I mixed three prints in a Summer inspired outfit? Well, I took the challenge on for this season and I don’t know if an outfit could get more Fall inspired than this. A vampy lip and about every cold-weather pattern you can imagine come together. I loved combining so many color schemes but somehow making the outfit feel cohesive. Black was the common thread pulling everything together and minimal accessories kept it from feeling too busy.

In other news, i’m still looking for the perfect pair of high waist flare or bootcut jeans for Fall. I think this outfit would have been killer with a pair in a dark wash. So, if you have any leads, please help a girl out!

Finally, i’m seriously loving this necklace that was sent my way by an old friend Heather Ross who has her own jewelry line. I’ve worn it with countless outfits and adore that it ties everything together without being too busy.

Thanks for reading and happy hump day!

Seychelles Ankle Boot Reveal + Review

IMG_2034-2

Gap sweater, BDG jeans, Seychelles boots via Gilt, Prada sunglasses

I’m just breaking pearshape “rules” all over the place these days. I have spoken about my need for comfortable, walkable boots in many posts (here and here) and finally broke down about a month ago and ordered these Seychelles boots from Gilt. They were on mega sale and I know Seychelles is notorious for comfort, so I figured I would give it a go. I originally anticipated only wearing these with tights and skirts to minimize the breaking up of my leg line, but broke the mold last week with black jeans (baby steps, people).

I surprised myself by actually loving the look and feeling so comfortable. I was proud of myself for wearing an item that i’ve long admired but been too afraid to delve into, and making it work for my body type. For now I think I will be sticking with tights and dresses/skirts or black jeans, but thought that the wide opening of the boot and a slouchy sweater helped to make this look flattering and chic.

IMG_2037-2

Reasons I chose these boots in particular: A) they are insanely comfortable, B) they have a wider opening at the top, key for keeping proportion and not pegging the leg too much, C) they have some detailing, keeping them tough rather than dainty.

I’d love to hear your opinion, what do you think of ankle boots for pears? Have you tried the trend?

Reveal: Custom Fit Blazer

IMG_1981-2

Custom blazer from Hong Kong, J.Crew pixie pants, Old Navy tee, Iken watch, InPink necklace, Prada sunglasses, Hunter boots, LV Speedy 30 handbag

I wanted to snap these pictures for you this weekend wearing the final result of my custom blazer in Hong Kong! I just couldn’t wait to style it for work and paired it with my favorite pixie pants and casual basics for a Saturday of errands. The blazer fits so beautifully, it’s ridiculous. I love the length, custom blue and white piped interior, breast pocket and dark buttons. I highly encourage checking out custom suiting, or if that isn’t in your budget, check out some of the gorgeous plaid options below and consider getting them tailored to size.

Here is a close up shot of the pattern I chose. I thought the slight yellow stripes would lend it well to warmer months and the cooler burgundy and navy tones make it perfect for Autumn and Winter.

Please let me know if you choose to fit a blazer. I’d LOVE to see the before and after pictures!
