Hard Tail Legging Review & Weekend Morning Routine

Hard Tail Capri Review

Harvard sweatshirt, Hard Tail Keyhole Capri leggings c/o, Prada sunglasses, Michael Kors sneakers

Most of the time you all see me looking put together, and well, clothed properly. But the reality of it is that on weekend mornings I throw on a variation of this exact outfit, walk down my street to the local coffee shop and grab the same Strawberry Banana Chia smoothie you see in my hand and come back home to prepare the rest of breakfast. My hair is up in a bun, I throw on my most comfy pants and sweatshirt, and sport big sunnies to avoid having to put on makeup. Since discovering Hard Tail a few years ago this routine has become decidedly more put together with the addition of their leggings rather than baggy sweatpants (truth).

Hard Tail Legging Review

These Hard Tail capri’s are my 4th pair from the line and I looooove them. I buy Hard Tail for two reasons: 1) they suck you in everywhere 2) they are high waisted and provide tummy control, and these aren’t any different. The grey design at the bottom adds some interest and the capri length versus my usual full-pant makes it easier to pair with shoes.

Hard Tail pant review

I always size down to a Medium in Hard Tail, just for added control but if you want to avoid the slight indentation of the grey lines in these particular pants, i’d recommend going with your regular size.

I’m curious, what is your weekend morning routine? Do you leave the house at all? And, below please find the other Hard Tail pants i’ve owned and sincerely loved.

ASOS Floral Skater Dress

Asos Floral Dress

J.Crew shirt and necklace, Prada sunglasses, ASOS dress (under $50!), Madewell sidewalk skimmers

This year i’m just the queen of finding cheap, amazing dresses (further evidence here and here). This ASOS floral skater dress fits like a dream and is just so cute for the warm weather we have been having in SF lately. On this particular day I layered it with a J.Crew henley and added some jewels to class it up a bit.

Asos summer dress

I don’t know if you can fully tell in the picture, but this dress has buttons all the way down the front. I love that added detail and also the seams that run all the way around the dress. It has a cap sleeve and a v-neck, what more could I possibly want?

One thing to note is that I am wearing a size 10 here and it fits perfectly over the chest and rib area. A teensy bit shorter than anticipated so size up for extra length.

And because i’m not obsessed with floral dresses, here are a few other relatively inexpensive options I had my eye on from ASOS:

Rag and Bone Harrow Bootie Review

Rag-and-bone-harrow-review

Rag and Bone “Harrow” bootie, Banana Republic jeans, Gap sweater (similar)

I’m just going to put it out there and say that i’m bad at San Francisco weather when it comes to shoes. I’ve mentioned this issue before: that I seriously don’t know what to put on my feet when it’s too cold for flats but too warm for knee-high boots. I was seriously hoping the solution were these Rag and Bone booties. With their lower cut front and reasonable heel height, I had hope! But, after taking these pictures and seeing what they truly look like on, I couldn’t justify the price tag. See below for full reasoning.

The side view is where a lot of the issue lies. My feet look like boats, I kind of feel like a clown, and I don’t like the shape of the shoe or the heel (the way it kind of curves in at the back). Comfort wise they weren’t as comfortable as I would want for walking the city streets (i’m spoiled after my Tieks), and the leather would have taken some breaking in. I also wasn’t a fan of how high they came up on the sides of my ankles.

Material wise, the leather is great quality and the black is gorgeous. The details like the wrap around are sensational. I don’t particularly care for how they wrap straight across the front ankle, but I could get over that.

All in all, these looked great with black tights and a little skirt but not so good with jeans rolled up or tucked in. For $500+ they better look amazing with everything, so back they went. Have you tried the booties? I’d love to know what you wear in these sort of weather predicaments!

Review: BDG High-Waist Black Jeans

IMG_0154-2

Nordstrom top (similar), J.Crew belt, BDG high-waist jeans, Sam Edelman sandals (my color is sold out, but my next pair will be these)

Get ready to see quite a bit of these jeans in the months to come. I tweeted a few weeks back that I was searching for the perfect pair of high-waist black jeans and one of my lovely readers, Franziska responded with a recommendation for these BDG jeans from Urban Outfitters. I quickly went online and at $38 a pop after sale, I ordered two pairs at varying sizes to test them out. I ended up with my usual size (i’m typically between a 30-31, and went with a 31) and love them.

They are true skinny jeans, tapering very tightly around the ankle which I appreciate. They also are very high-waisted on me, sitting about an inch above my belly button. The material isn’t as sturdy as some designer jeans, and it feels like I might have to repurchase these after a few months of wear, but i’m so thrilled to have found a cheap black jean alternative.

The pockets are placed just a tad bit wide for my particular rear end but boyfriend gave them the nod of approval, so I decided to keep them regardless. To this day the only pair of black jeans I have found that have the proper pocket placement for me are Ann Taylor curvy slims, and those fade very quickly and don’t taper narrow enough to tuck into boots.
