Monochrome for a sleeker body line

J.Crew sweater, shell & skirt, Cole Haan pumps, Andrew Marc leather jacket (similar), Nordstrom Rack earrings

When it comes to dressing for a more formal work event, I try and stay as simple and sophisticated as possible, without sacrificing fit. A little trick I have always used is maintaining a monochromatic palette on top and bottom. Not only does this streamline each half of the body but it makes getting dressed that much more simple!

I tucked the top of my shirt into a high waisted skirt to further define my waist and make my legs appear longer.

While I try and maintain conservatism in the office, this is about as loose as I could get this skirt. I had it custom altered down from a larger size and even still it hugs my rear end. Oh, the problems of a pear.

Plus, a little leather for good measure!

What do you think of the monochromatic look?

this is a great look for you! and pink is my favorite color 🙂 monochromatic dressing is such a simple trick, but i always forget to do it. nice to read you got your skirt altered to fit. after reading your post about the ASOS pants you altered down, i found a beautiful black pencil skirt (for $6 !!! on clearance) and am having it altered down. i can’t wait to pick it up later this week. also – what is the color/brand nail polish you are wearing in your recent make-up for the office post?

Thank you Lilly you are so sweet! I am a big fan of dressing this way. It made getting ready that morning so much simpler. And please let me know how that pencil skirt alteration goes!

About the nail polish, i’m out of town at the moment and i’m going to have to check when I get back. Will let you know asap 🙂

      thank you!

  • So I’m on the search for some pencil skirts but I feel every one I try on is like…SUPER BOOTY. Have you had the most luck with the J.Crew pencil skirts after tailoring? I feel like I’d be willing to pay for a skirt or two that I actually feel comfortable in, rather than be like…excuse my butt, I know it’s large.

Loved your Monochrome outfit and your black stiletto high heel shoes. It’s fits you like a glove and the makeup is perfect. However the only critique I would offer at this time is that you should of wore glossy, shinny nude or suntan or black pantyhose or tights
with your black stiletto high heel shoes instead of being barelegged. Please accept my feedback as merely encouragement, I hope to see more in the future. Keep up the good work.
