On The Hunt: Extended Calf Heeled Boots

wide calf boots

Madewell “The Watchtower” (old, but does anyone know where I can find them, or anyone tried them?), UGG “Dreaux”

If you’re a ThePearShape veteran, you know i’ve been on the hunt for a pair of wide-calf heeled boots for ever. I have ordered and tried countless pairs, either not happy with the heel height, material or comfort. At this point, I am willing to take a look at a great brown/cognac pair or a sleek black option in a variation of heel heights. My only requirements are that they are leather and comfortable enough to walk in. I am definitely not in the business of teetering on these babies through work. Anyone have any specific recommendations? Anywhere i’m not looking? I have considered Duo but don’t want to go custom unless I have to. Help!

I ordered Sole Society’s Valentina black boots with a 15 1/2 calf circumference which is what I need at the least. I also have brown Tender Tootsies wide calf. Hope this helps.

I ordered the last boots from Zappos.com

Hi! I think we have similar-sized calves and I have a terrible time finding boots, too. I have a couple of suggestions for you:

    1. I just bought a pair of VanEli Candie boots in black nappa (here at DSW http://www.dsw.com/shoe/vaneli+candie+boot?prodId=289384 and many other online sources). What surprised me about these was not just that I could zip them up, or that they were comfortable, but that the calf of the boot actually conforms very closely to my leg so you get a very shapely result, rather than that awful pirate-boot look that occurs with so many wide-calf boots that just widen and widen as they go up the leg. These aren’t a high heel, but enough of a heel to look nice and be walkable. I think they look better in person than in the photos. I don’t believe these are designated as wide-calf boots, but the stretch panel on these is quite wide and so fits a greater range of calves.

    2. Pennington’s, a Canadian plus-size store, has footwear now, including several pairs of the sort of boots you’re looking for. I must say though, to my very great shock: the two pairs I tried one were WAY too big in the calf. I mean, not just a bit loose; I was swimming in them. I have never in my life tried on any kind of boots that went above my ankle that were too big on the calf. So, depending on which style you’re interested in, you could find the same thing, or you might have better luck than I did.

Anyway, I hope this is some help. Finding attractive boots that fit both my feet and calves is a nearly impossible task so I feel your pain. — Deborah

Just also noticed this Ellen Tracy boot that’s similar to the VanEli and I’m guessing it stretches a lot, too: http://www.dsw.com/shoe/ellen+tracy+canton+boot?prodId=284470&productRef=CROSS:

Hi Lauren love your blog- Depending on the style and price point you are looking for, I ordered a pair of Frye Lucinda Slouch boots during the Nordstrom anniversary sale and they fit my larger calves well. They are more like a knee-high or over-the-knee boot (I’m 5’6″) with a lot of versatility in the way you wear them (pulled up, scrunched down or folded over). I also didn’t have the problem of getting my foot into them that I have with a different style of Frye boots. They don’t seem to be available at Nordstrom anymore but I remember there were tons of positive reviews from girls looking for larger calf circumference boots. I remember that Zappos was carrying them as well. I ordered the whiskey cognac color in my regular size and they are beautiful and comfortable. I wear them frequently for all day at work.

I adore my new Calvin Klein boots! They are professional, timeless and COMFORTABLE. I picked them up at DSW and I have 18.5″ calves and they fit like a dream because of the elasticized shaft. The front is leather and it is just such a sleek boot. It was the answer to my winter boot prayers.

WOW 18.5! What a dream. I’m going to have to check those out

I love my Naturalizer Juletta boots for a more weathered look as well as my Etienne Aigner Celina boots for a sleeker look. The latter have fabric panels which give it some stretch, but I wouldn’t be able to tuck pants or jeans in them. The Naturalizer boots are extended calf. Both were at Macy’s last year. Good luck in the search.

Naturalizer actually never crossed my mind. I have tried the Celina boots but wasn’t a fan of the fabric panels :-/

Hi Lauren! I LOVE your blog!

I have a very similar pear body shape and wide calves. I just ordered two pairs of tall boots. They aren’t heeled but the fit is so great I am sure if they have heeled versions you could try these brands.

I bought these Bandolino Caydince Wide Shaft Boots in Black (on sale right now at Zappos!):

i bought these Enzo Angiolini Shobi Wide Calf Boots in Natural (also on sale right now at Zappos):

A few years ago I bought a pair of Via Spiga boots that have high heels and those fit my calves.

Thank you SO much for the recommendations! I will check out both of those brands

Don’t wait another second to order from Duo. YEARS I have searched for boots to fit my calf. I ordered a pair and they were Perfect!!! I had them in a week and no customs charges either! Do it!!

    • lhaber

Ah i’m so glad to hear you have had a great experience. I think i’m gonna take the plunge. Did you find that they were very comfortable? Good quality materials?

  • Candace

pretty much any leather boot you buy can be taken to a cobbler and stretched out to fit your calf. I do this with all of my boots =)

    • Sophia

Does this really work? I reordered J Crew Parker boots now that they’re on sale. I know the calf is too tight because I ordered them before and had to send them back. It pained me to return them because I think they’re so beautiful! If the calf can be stretched I’ll be thrilled! They’re only $149 now with the promo.

Wow, thanks so much for the Duo link! I didn’t know anything about that company. I too have been search for just the right wide calf boots for years. I see a few Duo boots I really like a lot!
