Restated Love for the J.Crew Pixie Pant

Top, Pants, Shoes, Bag (here in black), Sunglasses (here with green lenses)

Today’s post is dedicated to my all-time favorite pant: the J.Crew Pixie pant. I’ve purchased over 10 pairs of these pants, and worn through each one. There is no other pant on the market that is comfortable, versatile, and makes me feel great.

The thing I love most about the Pixie pant is the way it hugs the body. The fabric is very thick, and the waist is high, making the legs and tummy feel sucked in and lean unlike thinner, less form-fitting pants.

Pixie’s are also 100% opaque unlike many other leggings. On busy days, i’ve been known to wear these pants to work.

Also, can we talk about these sunglasses. Amaze.

This post wouldn’t be complete without talking about the (albeit few) pitfalls of the Pixie pant:

1. They wear out. The zipper on these pants is in the back, and wears out over about 6 months of wear
2. They are dry-clean only. Not a deal breaker for me, but annoying for sure.
3. They aren’t cropped in length. I like all of my skinny pants to hit right above my ankle, and these are full length. I combat this issue by rolling the hems as I do with most of my bottoms, but it’s something that should be noted.

Are there pants you love and have to recommend? Do share!

My Favorite Wide Calf Boots

If there’s one thing that’s SO. HARD. to purchase as a woman with thick calves, it’s boots. While i’m no expert, there are two pairs that i’ve found over the years that I just had to share.

The above is the Hunter Boots “Huntress” that i’ve posted about in this post, and this one. The calf circumference is 16 inches and they come to just about 2 inches below the knee. These boots are spectacular, and have been a staple in my wardrobe for many years.

The second is the Enzo Angiolini “Sumilo” boot. A classic just-below-the-knee black boot, with a 3 inch heel, you just can’t go wrong. These boots have been in my wardrobe for years (this post, as an example), and are so comfortable. They have a 16 inch calf circumference with leather that will give just a bit more than that for ladies with even wider calves. While i’m not the hugest fan of the buckle, I decided to keep these because of their versatility, and at the time when I bought them, so few options.

Are there any wide-calf boots you’ve found and love? In particular, please do send along recommendations for an over-the-knee boot for us wide-calf ladies.

4 Flattering Ways to Tuck a Shirt Into Jeans

One of the most common questions I get at work and from friends is how and why I tuck shirts into my jeans. I’ve long felt that shirts without some kind of tuck cut the body in half, and create outfits that aren’t quite as interesting.

I’m excited to get into video as a medium, and in this one I walk through four ways I use to tuck two different kinds of shirts into jeans.

Curvy Girl Styling Leggings for Work

Outfit Details: Leggings (mine are Lululemon “high times” pants, but similar here), Boots (wide calf, and amazing), Vest (old, but this would work as well), Top

I’m the first one to say that as a curvy girl with an ample bottom half, constricting clothing has the potential to just ruin a day. Sitting in jeans through meetings all day long is never my idea of fun, so i’m always looking for ways to be stylish and comfortable, especially in the pants department.

Enter: opaque leggings.

There are a few rules of thumb I try and stick to when wearing leggings, especially in a work environment:

1. Cover the tush and the crotch <-- Absolutely no one at work needs to see the contours of your tush or your camel toe. Cover that ish up.

2. Keep the top half non-constricting <-- Because the item you're wearing on the bottom is tight, keep the top half flowy and looser fitting. This will help create some balance and make it appear like you're wearing real clothing, and not coming straight from the gym.

3. Heels <-- Leggings can be frumpy. Let's be real. Heels will help make the outfit look put together, and give some class to an otherwise inappropriate workday piece.
