Leather Dress Styled Two Ways + Video!

Daytime Outfit: J.Crew sweater (similar), DVF dress, SPANX tights, J.Crew boots

The styling of a leather dress started as a reader challenge, posted on Twitter. Always willing to take on a style challenge, and having wanted a leather dress for years, I went on a hunt. It took quite a while, but in this year’s Nordstrom anniversary sale I came across this stunning DVF piece for 75% off it’s original price…I literally jumped for joy. With stunning buttery leather panels and the most flattering fit and flare shape, I have worn this dress countless times already and wanted to share two simple day and night stylings with you here.

For day, to tone down the dominatrix-esque feel of leather, I layered a casual white sweater and used a belt to cinch in the waist and keep the sweater from draping over my tummy. Basic boots and loose curls complete the daytime look.

For evening, I went a little more glam, showcasing the leather and my shape by layering underneath:

Evening Outfit: J.Crew blouse, DVF Dress, Sam Edelman sandals

A basic white blouse and red lips allow the full focus to be on the dress, complete with exposed zipper and stretch back. The fit and flare makes my waist look tiny and the covered chest area balances the short length.

I’m so in love with the stretch back of this dress that allows it to truly hug my figure, making for a perfect fit off the rack!

I want to start doing a little bit more animation with my outfit posts so I put together a little video for these particular pairings in an effort to showcase the movement and beauty of this dress. I hope you enjoy!

Thanks so much for reading and to Mallory Mitchell for shooting these photos!

Newest Purchase: Zara Short Puffer Coat

zara short puffer coat 2

In my quest to dress appropriately for San Francisco weather, I purchased this coat from Zara. It is a beautiful sand/light rose color, complete with faux fur collar, hidden hood, zipper and snap closure and contoured waist. It is absolutely perfect! Stay tuned for a full review

P.S. Order a size up. I ordered an XL (i’m usually a M, maybe a L in tops), and it fits just a tad roomy but perfect to layer underneath.

Giving Definition To A J.Crew Gauze Top

J.Crew top (old sale item, but similar here), J Brand jeans, Hunter Huntress boots, Oia Jules earrings, Rebecca Minkoff pouch (same color here), Target belt (this year’s version)

Adjusting to San Francisco weather has been harder than I thought. I always have to account for changes in weather, am always finding new ways to cover my entire body while still remaining “seasonally appropriate,” all the while staying comfortable for walking. This outfit is pretty standard when I don’t know what to wear, but I need to stay within the above parameters. I’m finding myself expanding beyond my typically sweater/shirt choices just to bring some added interest to these difficult outfits.

I found this top on mega sale at J.Crew and while I wouldn’t have normally gravitated towards it because of it’s unstructured nature, i’m finding that I love it tucked into my norm of jeans and boots.

Paired with yet another pouch-turned-clutch and my comfy boots, it is such a standard SF outfit, it’s ridiculous.

Any SFers have creative solutions to solve the weather/dressing conundrum i’m facing?

The Best $20 Dress I Ever Did See

Old Navy dress (wearing a size M), Zara bib (similar from Jewelmint), SPANX tights, J.Crew boots, LOFT coat (old)(similar)

It’s rare that I buy an item of clothing, put it on and feel like a million bucks instantly. That is pretty much what happened with this Old Navy number, and as an added bonus, it was less than $20 after sale. The fit is insanely perfect, the length is flirty and fun, and the material is a thickly knit weave that I appreciate from a discount store like ON.

While a few inches short for me to be comfortable wearing without tights, I love the look of it layered here with SPANX and boots for frigid SF “summer.” I also plan to use this dress for upcoming pool days in Macau with Cesar and visits to the beach. There is an exposed zip at the back for some added edge and a beautifully done center seam that gives just the right amount of definition.

For under $20 (or less) with the right sale, I plan to pick this up in other colors as well!
