To the one of the greatest men I know. Thank you for being my best friend all these years, Dad. I love you! xo

Creating curves & a narrow waist with contrasting patterns + stripes

I am always looking for ways to create proportion on my body. Be it with a full skirt, flouncy skirt, or lower neckline, narrowing my waist and camouflaging my hips is my business. In this particular outfit I mixed two contrasting patterns for interest, a full skirt to graze over my hips, and a lower cut shirt to elongate my neck. I also added a Snookie-esque poof for added height. Solid black tights and boots keep the bottom half more streamlined and simple accessories don’t overpower. The end result was a balancing of my top and bottom half, with some cinching in the middle, just what I love!

After looking at these pictures I realized that from a stylistic perspective, patterned tights or more interesting shoes would have been more “fashionable.” However if there is one thing that blogging and dressing this figure on a daily basis has taught me, it is that trends and what might be considered more in fashion are not always appropriate for my body type. I always opt for flattery over trend any day.

Goodbye 2012

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9

To say the very least, 2012 was an amazing year. I graduated from college, moved into my first apartment in Charlotte, began a new job, and started my very own little piece of the internet: thepearshape.com. While the year has been filled with excitement, changes, love, and happiness, one of the aspects that has been the most fulfilling is this blog. I thrive on the creativity and love the openness with which I have been received. I cannot wait to see what this will become and to continue to share my outfits, and my life, with all of you. Thank you for your continued readership and support. It truly means the world.

Have a safe and Happy New Year!

The importance of a great hair-do + my product favorites

If there is one thing that can make me feel complete and put together regardless of what i’m wearing, it is a great hairstyle. On a day like this one where the weather was terrible and I wanted to do nothing but lay around in sweats, getting up and simply blowdrying my hair made me feel sexy and pretty. To achieve the sleek, clean look I have in these photos, I rely on a few key products and hair accessories.

Naturally my hair is curly and frizzy. Sometimes this works just fine, but most days I need to put a little elbow grease into my hair to make it look presentable, especially for work with clients. My preferred hairstyle is wavy with body and bounce, as pictured above.

My method of achieving this includes a large round brush, tons of styling products to tame frizz and give extra body, and some clips and scrunchies to sleep in to keep the style for multiple days.

My go-to products include: Keratase Elixer, Chi Shine Infusion pray, Elnett hairspray, Matrix root lifter, Tresemme heat protective spray, any large round brush (I prefer something coarser like this one), clips, scrunchy to prevent creasing and keep the style.  I apply products 1, 4 and 5 before blow drying, 2 and 3 after for shine and hold. With these products and a little work with a blow dryer, I achieve shiny, manageable hair that has me feeling confident and sexy.
