Pearshape Staple #1: The Blazer

Blazer + Cami + Necklace: JCrew, Jeans: Levi’s, Shoes: Coach (old)

This week will be a series of staple clothing items for the pearshaped woman. A few essentials that I always keep with me to pull together any look or dress flatteringly in an instant. First up is a classic, tailored blazer. I am a firm believer that a blazer looks great on a woman of any shape. A well tailored jacket nips in just below the bust at the smallest part of you, and lays over the hips beautifully. It instantly pulls together a casual outfit (like this tanktop and necklace i’m wearing here) and feels professional and polished.

This one happens to be from J.Crew and was a little splurge for my last birthday. It is a heavyweight, lined cotton in a deep navy blue with brown plastic buttons. I’m wearing a size 8 here, and it closes beautifully over the chest and grazes over my hips.

I chose this blazer over JCrew’s schoolboy blazer primarily because of the material and the length. The schoolboy is a bit shorter and has shorter lapels, perfect for petite women. This blazer sits lower on the chest and the cotton is breathable enough to wear over lighter shirts for summer. It also has matching skirt and pant bottoms should I decide to turn this into a full suit, win!

For sizing reference. The size 8, when laid flat, measures 15 inches across the shoulders, 17 inches across the smallest part of the waist, and about 25 inches long, which falls towards the top of my hips. The blazer also has beautiful curved seaming along the front and back for an ultra-slimming effect.

Stay tuned for more pearshape essentials!
