Rag and Bone Harrow Bootie Review

Rag and Bone “Harrow” bootie, Banana Republic jeans, Gap sweater (similar)

I’m just going to put it out there and say that i’m bad at San Francisco weather when it comes to shoes. I’ve mentioned this issue before: that I seriously don’t know what to put on my feet when it’s too cold for flats but too warm for knee-high boots. I was seriously hoping the solution were these Rag and Bone booties. With their lower cut front and reasonable heel height, I had hope! But, after taking these pictures and seeing what they truly look like on, I couldn’t justify the price tag. See below for full reasoning.

The side view is where a lot of the issue lies. My feet look like boats, I kind of feel like a clown, and I don’t like the shape of the shoe or the heel (the way it kind of curves in at the back). Comfort wise they weren’t as comfortable as I would want for walking the city streets (i’m spoiled after my Tieks), and the leather would have taken some breaking in. I also wasn’t a fan of how high they came up on the sides of my ankles.

Material wise, the leather is great quality and the black is gorgeous. The details like the wrap around are sensational. I don’t particularly care for how they wrap straight across the front ankle, but I could get over that.

All in all, these looked great with black tights and a little skirt but not so good with jeans rolled up or tucked in. For $500+ they better look amazing with everything, so back they went. Have you tried the booties? I’d love to know what you wear in these sort of weather predicaments!

Have you tried the loader or Oxford route? I used to think I’d hate them on my feet but they’re all I want to wear now! And they cover more than flats!

I’m a big oxford and loafer fan too. They also add just the right amount of chic or prep to a basic jeans and tee outfit!

I like loafers too. I get colorful ones that I wear with black socks when it’s cold and I wear pants, and then without socks when it’s warm or I’m wearing a skirt.

I think i’m going to try and get a pair of motorcycle mid calf boots for when I wear skirts with tights and its cold. I want something super comfortable so i’m going to shop the “advanced comfort technology” section on Piperlime to get that done.

I JUST ordered a pair of Adam Tucker leopard loafers (leopard flats are another wishlist item). I think i’m just destined for flats when wearing pants

  • I have a pair of Steve Madden Philip booties that are amazing. They’re super comfy, look great with jeans and dresses, work for all seasons, and aren’t as omgcowboyboots in person. I’ve worn them on my blog here: http://www.diyfatshion.com/2012/10/fatshion-faceoff-boots.html They’re since sold out, but Carlos Santana has some that are super similar: http://www.carlosshoes.com/en-US/Product/82697-5168081/CARLOS+BY+CARLOS+SANTANA/Taupe+Suede/Womens+Brooky.aspx

    • Also, thank you for doing a review of the Harrow booties, I’ve had my eye on those for a while! Don’t think I’ll be saving up for them after all, seeing as I’d probs have the same issues you had with them. 🙂

You’re so sweet for posting a link to your booties. I love yours but I can’t get over the how booties look on me. I really think every one is going to either make my feet look big or my legs look stumpy. And yes, I agree, don’t bother saving for these!

Not label blind at all 🙂

I think for fuller-bottom gals, the key is getting nude leather or suede for booties so that they eye is not immediately drawn to them. I just got a pair of Vince Camuto nude suede wedges from Nordstrom and they look much better and more subtle with rolled up jeans than the black did.

Have you found the harrow boots to stretch over time? I am contemplating buying the black leather ones, but am having a tough time with sizing – if I go up half a size, the back slips when I walk, even though the toe area is tight. I’m thinking about going down a size, but would love to know your thoughts about whether these boots stretch. Thanks!
